With basic care (dusting with a damp cloth) your PaperBallet.ca sculpture will last for many years; its beauty untouched by time and fashion.
But because Gordon’s sculptures are made mostly from paper (like a dictionary), he recommends you treat your hand-crafted paper sculpture like you would a favourite book.
Keep it away from livestock, hard edges and water. Share it with your friends.
If you want to place your sculpture outside long term, just be sure to put it in a location away from direct exposure to rain and snow.
What to do in the garden: put your sculptures outside when its sunny and take them in when its going to rain. Dew is not an issue.
In the event your sculpture does get wet (rained on?) dry it off with a towel and put it somewhere warm to dry. Paying special attention to areas where water pools, like under the base of the sculpture.
Editor note: many of Gordon’s people-sized sculptures (sans epoxy) were stored outside for several years and suffered only superficial damage. Hummingbird Moth being one (local) example.
Lightly damaged sculptures can be easily repaired; wood filler being a favourite hole/dent repair material. A fall from a table once knocked the head off the Rancher sculpture but looking at it today you would never know it.
You can pretty much cut any one of these sculptures in half and Gordon would be able to make it good as new again. Softness of material being both a weakness and a strength.
Thanks very much for supporting my work,
May you get as much enjoyment from your sculpture as i put into making it.
Cheers, Gordon
My Promise: What i know that you do not is how many hours went into making even the smallest of these sculptures. So i view the price of a sculpture more as a commitment on behalf of the buyer (you) to care for my (now your) sculpture as something of value–made for you by me.
The door of my heart is always open to those responsible for caring for my sculptures.
IF EVER you are unable to care for your PaperBallet.ca sculpture, return it to Gordon and he will refund the entire purchase price of your sculpture, tout suite, with a nice lunch. . .
You have purchased something very special. Well done.
